SANTO DOMINGO.- President Luis Abinader was recognized yesterday by the Spanish hotel chains in the Dominican Republic, grouped under Inverotel, who took the opportunity to announce an investment of one billion dollars for the next two years.
During a formal ceremony, the president received the plaque alongside the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and expressed his gratitude for the honor, emphasizing that he has only done what he believes is best for the country during his administration, and therefore, tourism development has increased.
He indicated that all governments have developed this sector, however, his administration has “embraced” it so much that they have been able to achieve satisfactory results never seen before.
For her part, Encarna Piñero, president of Inverotel and General Manager of Grupo Piñero, indicated that the Dominican Republic has reasons to celebrate the results that the tourism sector is obtaining in terms of visitor arrivals, which could exceed 7.2 million by the end of 2022.
“These results demonstrate that when authorities and companies join forces, working together, each from their own responsibility, we can achieve what we set out to do,” he emphasized, considering that President Luis Abinader and Minister David Collado are two of the most productive figures in the country.
Investment to innovate and achieve sustainability
He stated that “we are adding more investment, around US$1 billion, in the form of innovation, sustainability and, above all, in our people, in our human capital, and in the communities around us.”.
Businessman Miguel Fluxá, president of Iberostar, highlighted that the Dominican Republic is setting records in tourist arrivals month after month this year and it is estimated that it will close the year exceeding the seven million visitor mark.
“Our investment has always represented a strong commitment to a country in which we believed, believe, and will continue to believe. Those of us who are part of Inverotel have forged a special emotional connection with the Dominican Republic. But also because we find, and it gives us, reasons to do so,” said Encarna Piñero.
Tourism has record figures this year
For his part, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, presented graphs showing the record-breaking months for tourism in the island's various destinations. He also highlighted the recovery of jobs lost due to the pandemic and emphasized that they will continue to increase efforts to make the country a model for tourism destinations.
