SANTO DOMINGO- This Sunday, starting at 3:00 PM, authorities in the area will begin a simultaneous roadblock on the main access roads to the city of Santo Domingo to ensure the safe return of drivers returning from the Easter holiday.
The General Directorate of Traffic and Transportation Safety (Digesett) reported that the operation will extend in the East Zone from Punta Cana to the Juan Carlos Bridge on the Las Américas Highway, Santo Domingo province; on the Duarte Highway, from Santiago de los Caballeros to the entrance of Los Alcarrizos; and in the South Region, from the municipality of Baní to the tollbooth on the November 6th Highway.
The plan is part of the "Awareness for Life 2024" operation, and for the day the entity assured that it has reinforced the necessary teams to effectively control speed, and thus prevent drivers from speeding on their way back home.
The head of Digesett, General Francisco Osoria de la Cruz, PN, stated that the objective of the roadside checkpoint is to control the speed of drivers returning from the Easter holiday in order to prevent and reduce traffic accidents and to raise awareness about the importance of respecting speed limits and traffic regulations, not only during Holy Week, but throughout the year.
"The purpose of the lane change is to ensure that drivers travel at a considerable speed in order to reduce traffic accidents and, consequently, the loss of human lives," added General Osoria.
The Digesett called on citizens to cooperate and respect Law 63-17, on Mobility, Land Transport, Transit and Road Safety of the Dominican Republic, to guarantee a safe return.
The simultaneous parade is carried out together with the other authorities that make up the "Conscience for Life, Holy Week 2024" operation.
