Samaná opens up to Chinese investors at the “Tourism and Attractions 2026” fair

SANTO DOMINGO – Samaná continues to solidify its position as one of the Dominican Republic's most promising tourism destinations, and now it has garnered further international interest. A delegation of approximately 20 Chinese businesspeople, accompanied by the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Dominican Republic, Chen Luning, will participate as the guest country in the "Samaná Tourism and Attractions 2026" (TyA 2026) trade fair, which will be held from March 13-15 at Hacienda Samaná Bay, Hotel & Residences.

The event has been conceived as a bridge of cooperation between both nations to generate investment and collaboration opportunities in the tourism sector, one of the country's economic pillars.

A trade fair to attract investment and position the destination

Dedicated this year to the People's Republic of China, the fair will bring together more than 60 companies and serve as a showcase to promote business and strengthen Samaná's international profile. The event will feature conferences, business meetings, consulting services, and experiences related to nature and adventure tourism.

CEO of TyA 2026 Kelvin Faña, emphasized that the event aims to strengthen the Dominican Republic's position in the global tourism market, with a special focus on Samaná, a province renowned for its natural and cultural richness. In addition, more than 40 local entrepreneurs and artisans will showcase products that reflect the region's identity, while the agenda will include artistic activities, culinary tastings, and events designed to highlight the destination's value.

International capital is looking towards the northeast

The arrival of Chinese businesspeople is often interpreted as an indicator of a destination's attractiveness for tourism development projects. In the case of Samaná, this interest could translate into new investments, greater visibility, and a more diversified offering.

It is estimated that more than 15,000 visitors will attend the fair, drawn by the business opportunities and the province's potential. The challenge going forward will be to channel that attention toward sustainable growth that preserves the natural environment and strengthens the local economy.

More than a one-off meeting, TyA 2026 reflects a clear trend: Samaná no longer only seduces with its beauty, but is beginning to position itself as a strategic territory for international tourism.
