SANTO DOMINGO.-More than 60,000 passengers will visit Samaná during the five-month cruise season that formally began on November 11 and extends until April 2023, with the arrival of 30 ships.
This season officially began with the arrival of the AIDA Luna cruise ship from AIDA Cruises, carrying approximately 2,000 German passengers. In addition, during the 2022-2023 season, other major cruise lines such as Costa Crociere, TUI Cruises, Azamara, and Ponant will be calling at Samaná with their ships Costa Pacifica, Ponant Le Dumond, Azamara Onward, Mein Schiff, AIDA Luna, and AIDA Diva.

These visitors will impact the economy of the surrounding communities, since tourists usually spend money on various activities, income that goes directly to tour guides, excursion vendors, owners of maritime transport, taxi drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers, restaurants, gift shops and other businesses in the area, which translates into development for the families of the community.
"The arrival of cruise ships to Samaná is one of the most anticipated times of year for the communities of this province, as it is one of the activities that has the greatest impact on the local economy due to the economic activity generated by cruise passengers in different areas of Samaná. These expenditures translate into tens of millions of pesos annually, which positively impact the quality of life of its inhabitants," stated Federico Schad, president of the tourism company Samaná Bayport.
Construction progress
The Samaná Cruise Terminal is well underway, a project that will create the necessary port conditions to attract a greater number of tourists, thereby boosting the economic and social development of Samaná; reflected in a better quality of life for the inhabitants of the province.
"The opening of the Samaná Cruise Terminal, along with the investments the government is making in the province, such as the renovation of the entrance and its boardwalk, will raise the image and quality of the tourist services we offer to all visitors to the area," Schad added.
