SANTO DOMINGO.-The Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (Opret) announced that it will suspend service tomorrow, Sunday, November 27, on some stations of Metro Line 1, from Hermanas Mirabal to Mamá Tingó, due to expansion work on the line.
The suspension hours will be from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
“Due to capacity expansion work on Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro, operations will be suspended this Sunday, November 27, from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm (full day) from the Hermanas Mirabal station to the Mamá Tingó station,” he posted on his Instagram account.
The purpose behind this expansion project is to double the subway's capacity, so the system will be able to operate with 6-car trains instead of 6, according to the institution's statement.
“In coordination with the Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (OMSA), routes will be provided along the affected stations, within the same schedule to guarantee the movement of users during the suspension,” he added.
In addition, the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transport (Digesett) will be on hand to maintain order in traffic.
“Thank you all for your understanding and patience during this process. Soon we will enjoy 6-car trains, eliminating the tedious queues and resulting in the improved comfort and quality of life that our citizens deserve,” reported OPRET.
