SANTO DOMINGO.-Last year, sales in the hardware sector increased by almost 33 percent, thus boosting the Dominican economy and increasing real revenues by 17 percent, said Minister of Industry and Commerce Víctor (Ito) Bisonó this Thursday.
He stated that during the first nine months of last year, more than 6.5 million square meters were built, with Greater Santo Domingo, Santiago and La Altagracia standing out.
He stated that hardware items, as well as wood and its manufactures, glass and its manufactures, lime and cement, ceramic products, among others, are part of the construction inputs exported by the country.
Bisonó highlighted the growth that the construction sector and hardware sales have had in recent years, while participating, along with President Luis Abinader, in the opening ceremony of a Supermix branch on Avenida República de Colombia.
"During 2022, sales in the hardware sector increased by almost 33 percent, thus boosting the Dominican economy and increasing real revenues by 17 percent," the official said.
Supermix
The new shopping center is a combination hardware store and supermarket. Abinader presided over the opening ceremony for the project, which represents an investment of 1.2 billion pesos, according to Alberto Papaterra, president of the group, who highlighted that the establishment generates approximately 200 direct jobs.
Supermix is located in Altos de Arroyo Hondo III, on a plot of land of 26,000 square meters, with 7,800 square meters of construction, parking for more than 200 vehicles, two of them for electric cars.
It features the Mix Trail, a 300-meter route around the establishment for visitors to walk and exercise, and a special cart for people with disabilities and reduced mobility, which can be driven by a companion.
Grupo Alterra is the union of two companies that already own Ferremix and Impacto Ferretero, authorized distributors of the international brands Truper, Klintek, Pretul, Voltech, Foset, Fiero and Hermex.
