SANTO DOMINGO– Reid & Compañía, SA is joining the “100,000 Floors to Play” initiative by Habitat for Humanity and the Inter-American Federation of Cement Companies (FICEM) with a Construction Brigade. The initiative aims to replace dirt floors with concrete in vulnerable homes throughout Latin America and the Caribbean by 2028.
Reid & Company, SA made a donation and with its Volunteer Brigade worked to replace dirt floors with concrete in the homes of families in Palenque, in Haina, on Saturday, February 10, adding hope to them, a press release highlights.
Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization, arrived in the Dominican Republic in 1986 with the purpose of supporting low-income families through access to financial credit, risk management initiatives, and by advocating for affordable housing. Since then, it has provided 45,070 housing solutions. In its nearly 38 years of service, it has changed the lives of 225,350 Dominicans who now have a place to live.
Clara Santa Cruz, Human Development Director of Reid & Company, SA, expressed her pride in being part of this initiative that improves the quality of life for many Dominicans, creating a better future for many low-income families. She also thanked the members of the company's Construction Brigade for their participation.
Reid & Compañía, SA is an automotive company founded on April 15, 1947. It markets the CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP, RAM and MASERATI brands in the country, KOMATSU heavy equipment and other products and services related to the sector.
The project
The “100,000 floors to play” initiative seeks to replace 100,000 dirt floors with concrete in vulnerable homes throughout Latin America and the Caribbean by 2028.
It was born from the success obtained in the pilot project of the Pisos S3 developed in Guatemala in 2021, thanks to the work in partnership between Cementos Progreso, FICEM, Habitat for Humanity Guatemala, the Cement and Concrete Institute of Guatemala, and the Indigenous Entrepreneurs Network.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, the housing deficit affects almost 40% of the total population, and approximately 6% of households have a floor made predominantly of earth, causing serious health problems for the people who live in them, especially children and the elderly.
