In light of the Venezuelan earthquake, Onesvie calls on the country to maintain regular structural assessments

SANTO DOMINGO.-In light of the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that occurred last Wednesday in Venezuela, which have so far left more than 900 dead and multiple collapsed buildings, the National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie) intensified its call this Friday for permanent preparedness against seismic risks.

The organization noted that the recent earthquakes in Venezuela serve as a reminder of the importance of reducing structural vulnerability, while reaffirming its commitment to national security.

Onesvie reiterated that the periodic evaluation of critical infrastructure in the country — such as hospitals, schools and public buildings— remains a national priority, reaffirming its commitment to continue promoting training, preventive evaluation and awareness actions aimed at protecting lives and strengthening the Dominican Republic's response capacity to large-scale events.

Solidarity with Venezuela

The organization expressed its solidarity with the people of Venezuela in the face of the recent earthquakes that caused significant damage to buildings, infrastructure and communities, as well as loss of life.

He expressed his concern about the human, social and economic consequences of this emergency, extending a message of support to the Venezuelan authorities and their civil protection agencies.
