SANTO DOMINGO EAST- Mayor Dío Astacio and Minister of Tourism David Collado toured Avenida España yesterday to assess the damage caused by the heavy rains that hit the country after Hurricane Beryl.
During the journey they discussed the repair of the Santo Domingo East boardwalk, a task that will be carried out jointly between both entities, with support from the private sector, who will work on the reconstruction of the space that directly impacts the leisure and recreation of residents and tourists who visit the municipality.
Mayor Dío Astacio highlighted the importance of the meeting as it allowed for a review of potential situations that could be resolved in a timely manner.
“The reconstruction of the Santo Domingo East boardwalk is beginning, with the support of the Mayor's Office and the private sector. They are proceeding to recover the areas affected by Hurricane Beryl, and the proposal is that everything will be finished and it will be put exactly as it was,” Astacio reported.
Meanwhile, Collado explained that since early morning there have been heavy equipment and workers cleaning the entire boardwalk, removing debris with the support of the private sector.
“We knocked on doors to do it quickly, since with the Procurement and Contracting Law it is impossible to complete the process in one day, but we are going to leave the boardwalk just as it was before the storm,” Collado assured.
According to urban planners present, the damage can be repaired as soon as possible, since it involves reorganizing and rebuilding some roads destroyed by the sea waves that flowed laterally, hitting the place very hard, which caused part of the asphalt to lift up.
The Santo Domingo East boardwalk occupies about 2.3 kilometers on the municipality's coastline, comprising an area of 118,541.34 square meters converted into a natural park with a division into 7 recreation areas and seven parking areas with capacity to park 264 vehicles.
