In this context, a series of practices have been identified that allow reducing the risks associated with humidity, waterlogging and prolonged exposure of materials.
One of the technical recommendations is to cover the excavations with waterproof tarpaulins to prevent flooding in the foundation areas. This measure can eliminate the need for pumping equipment and helps maintain stable ground conditions for concrete pouring.
It is also recommended to protect newly poured surfaces with plastic sheeting or other coverings, as rain can interfere with the setting process. In these cases, the use of accelerating admixtures can facilitate faster hardening of the concrete, reducing its vulnerability to moisture.
Materials should be stored in covered and ventilated areas. Items such as rods, sheets, and metal profiles can rust if exposed to water, while products like cement, plaster, or mortar can harden and lose their functionality. It is recommended to place them on raised platforms to avoid direct contact with damp ground.
Regarding finishes, it is advisable to temporarily suspend painting and plastering work on exterior surfaces, as rainfall can damage newly applied surfaces. It is also important to check for leaks in interior walls, especially if the exterior plastering has not yet been completed.
Another aspect to consider is the temporary electrical installation. This must be kept in safe condition, without exposed or damaged wires that could pose a short circuit risk during rain. Periodic inspections are recommended to ensure its functionality.
Finally, if installing tiles outdoors, ensure the surface is free of standing water and remains protected during the adhesion process. Excessive moisture can affect the material's adhesion and compromise its durability.
