Punta Cana celebrated its 2023 carnival

PUNTA CANA, LA ALTAGRACIA.- Thousands of local and foreign visitors gathered for the fourteenth (14th) edition of the Punta Cana Carnival, last Saturday, February 4th, on Boulevard 1st of November in Puntacana Village, to enjoy the best of the artistic and cultural attractions of various national and international troupes.

The 2023 Carnival Parade began with the coronation of King Momo, the "Merengue Heartthrob," Eddy Herrera, one of the most anticipated surprises of the gala, as the distinction is awarded to outstanding national personalities who inspire Dominican society with their work and, in turn, promote art and culture, explains a press release from the Punta Cana Group.

The cultural celebration continued with a stunning display of colorful masks and costumes from 20 of the best carnival troupes and a parade of 1,500 participants representing Punta Cana, Bávaro, San Pedro de Macorís, San Juan de la Maguana, Nizao, Baní, San Cristóbal, Santo Domingo, Salcedo, Cotuí, Bonao, Puerto Playa, and Barahona. International troupes from Colombia, Spain, Aruba, Haiti, and Miami also participated.

The event concluded with a grand closing concert featuring the most emblematic hits of the artist Eddy Herrera.

The Muses of Punta Cana

This year, the Muses of Punta Cana paid homage to their homeland and Dominican identity. Their costumes were inspired by elements that honor the resilience of Dominicans in overcoming difficult circumstances and giving their best.

The comparsa was born as an initiative of a group of ladies from the Punta Cana community, who each year jointly design their carnival costumes, choosing a theme representative of Dominican culture.
