A total of 40 cruise ships will arrive in Puerto Plata this April of 2023, a type of tourism that is becoming increasingly stronger in the "Bride of the Atlantic," where 67 ships disembarked last March and more than 250,000 cruise passengers arrived in February, almost tripling the figure of last year.
The regional director of Tourism for the north, Atahualpa Paulino, reported that the announced arrival will be through the tourist ports of Amber Cove and Taino Bay, according to the schedule presented by the official.
He explained that of the 40 ships scheduled to arrive in the Bride of the Atlantic, 18 will be arriving through the Port of Amber Cove, owned by Carnival Corporation, and 22 through the Port of Taino Bay, owned by ITM Group.
Paulino believes that the Dominican Republic is becoming the main cruise hub in the entire Caribbean, thanks to the enormous support that President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado have been giving to this important sector, with the province of Puerto Plata contributing the most in terms of ship and cruise passenger arrivals to the country.
Historic February
More than 250,000 cruise passengers disembarked in the Dominican Republic during the past month of February, almost tripling the number of the previous year 2022, according to data provided by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado.
"Not only was it the best February in history for tourist arrivals by air, but it was also the best February in history for cruise ship arrivals, almost tripling the arrivals of 2022," he highlighted when presenting the usual monthly report.
According to the report presented by Collado, that amount represents an increase of 116% compared to 2019 and almost 300% compared to February 2022.
