Puerto Plata continues to make positive headlines: it receives three cruise ships at the same time for the first time

Historic Puerto Plata continues to reclaim its place in tourism news with the current cruise tourism boom. The tourism calendar reports that 67 ships will arrive this March in the "Bride of the Atlantic," three of which arrived simultaneously yesterday, setting a new record for this tourist destination.

The Norwegian Encore with 4,592 passengers and 1,632 crew members, the Seven Seas Splendor with 707 passengers and 548 crew members, and the Celebrity Constellation with 1,817 passengers and 971 crew members, were the ships that anchored yesterday in the Taíno Bay port, in the bay of Puerto Plata, while a cargo ship was also operating.

Until yesterday, Friday, the terminal, inaugurated on December 15, 2021, had received two tourist vessels at the same time on different occasions, including the world's largest cruise ship, the Wonder of the Seas, from the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, in January of this year.

Also at the Amber Cove port, of Carnival Cruise in Maimón, is the Carnival Spirit Cruise, which raises the number of visitors to both terminals to more than 13,000 people, generating dynamism in the economy of Puerto Plata.

Of the 67 ships scheduled to arrive in Puerto Plata, 30 will be arriving through the Amber Cove Port, owned by Carnival Corporation, and 37 through the Taino Bay Port, owned by ITM Group.

According to Atahualpa Paulino, the Regional Director of Tourism for the North, this will be the best year in the history of cruise tourism, both for the province and for the entire country, thus boosting the economy and creating jobs.

“The Dominican Republic is becoming the main cruise hub in the entire Caribbean, thanks to the enormous support that President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado have been giving to this important sector, with our province being the one that contributes the most in terms of ship arrivals and cruise passengers to the country,” the official stated.
