President Abinader convenes the Economic and Social Council (CES) in response to the Haitian crisis

Dialogue will focus on six strategic axes.

SANTO DOMINGO.President Luis Abinader, in agreement with former presidents Hipólito Mejía, Leonel Fernández, and Danilo Medina, convened the Economic and Social Council (CES) this Thursday, May 29, for a working session on Tuesday, June 3 , at 10:00 am.

The meeting will address the topic: “The Haitian crisis and its implications for the Dominican Republic,” within a pluralistic, democratic, and strategic framework, according to a press release from the Presidency.

Faced with Haiti's institutional collapse, the expansion of armed gangs, the humanitarian emergency, and irregular migration flows, President Abinader stressed the urgency of building an articulated national vision.

The dialogue will focus on six strategic areas: Migration, Bilateral Trade, Border Community Development, National Security, International Relations, and Labor Issues.

The president reiterated that this call represents a call for democratic maturity, multi-sectoral dialogue , and the formulation of a state strategy to face one of the most complex challenges in the country's recent history.

The inaugural session will include the participation of the former presidents, as agreed at the meeting held on May 14 at the Ministry of Defense.
