President Abinader: "The Dominican Republic is and will continue to be the best place to invest"

The president highlighted the historic record achieved in foreign direct investment in the country, stating that in 2024, the Dominican Republic reached a total of USD 4.523 billion in that category.

President Luis Abinader led the  "Recognition of Investment" ceremony yesterday, Thursday, which highlighted the contribution of 11 companies for their decisive role in the boom of foreign direct investment, which, according to the president, reached a historic USD 4.523 billion in 2024, thus consolidating the country as the star destination of the Caribbean and Latin America.

The event was organized by the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana).

The president highlighted the historic record achieved in foreign direct investment in the country, stating that in 2024, the Dominican Republic reached a total of USD 4,523 million in foreign direct investment and that in the first half of 2025 , USD 2,893 million has already been accumulated , with projections to exceed USD 4,860 million by the end of the year , thus chaining four consecutive years of record figures.

He emphasized that foreign direct investment has become one of the strongest pillars of the country's development, not only contributing foreign exchange and boosting the economy, but also opening up opportunities for innovation, creating quality jobs , and diversifying productive sectors. 

The president highlighted that the investments have been allocated to strategic sectors such as tourism, energy, free trade zones, telecommunications, commerce and industry, real estate, mining, and transportation. In particular, he mentioned the development of new tourist destinations, such as Cabo Rojo in Pedernales, with strategic investments aimed at attracting more visitors and generating greater well-being for the local population.

Commitment to sustainability

President Abinader also highlighted the country's commitment to sustainability, noting that it has achieved 25% renewable energy generation in the energy sector. He further emphasized technological innovation and advanced manufacturing, with significant progress toward cutting-edge sectors such as semiconductors.

Dominican Republic is the best place to invest

Finally, President Abinader invited investors to continue betting on the Dominican Republic, assuring them that the country is and will continue to be the best place to invest, thanks to its macroeconomic stability, legal security, openness, and confidence. 

"Investing in our country is sowing seeds in fertile ground, it's betting on a solid present and an unstoppable future," he concluded.

"Thanks to those who have trusted in the Dominican Republic as fertile ground to sow the future, generate wealth and drive transformation," the president said. 

“The decision to invest in our country is not accidental or a matter of chance. It stems from an ecosystem of macroeconomic stability, legal certainty, and openness that we have all built together. You have placed your trust in us, and that trust honors us. But it also commits us to continue advancing in creating increasingly favorable conditions for your investments to thrive and grow,” he stated.

Taking the floor, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Víctor Bisonó, indicated that “in the last five years, foreign direct investment has grown steadily in the Dominican Republic, consolidating us as one of the main destinations in the Caribbean, thanks to the confidence of investors in our country.”

For her part, the director of Prodominicana, Biviana Riveiro, during her speech, pointed to the Dominican Republic as a destination of opportunities, confidence and growth, since in 2024 it reached a historic record of foreign direct investment (FDI) with USD 4,523 million, which represents a growth of 3% compared to the previous year and 50% compared to 2019, which consolidates the country as the main investment destination in the region. 

He emphasized that in the first half of 2025 alone, USD 2,892.8 million has been registered , a figure that exceeds the same period in 2024 by 15.3% and projects an annual closing of more than USD 4,860 million. 

He also emphasized that “reinvestment of profits amounted to USD 1,668 million in 2024, equivalent to 36.9% of total FDI, which constitutes a clear sign of the confidence and commitment of investors to the business climate and the stability of the Dominican economy.”.
