President Abinader announces government housing plans will provide the country with more than 10,000 homes this 2023

“Familia Feliz is an ongoing project, and we are working on the permitting process for 23 projects that will add 6,431 more homes.” President Luis Abinader.

SANTO DOMINGO.– The housing plans being implemented by the Dominican government will allow the country to reduce its housing deficit in 2023, with the construction of more than 10,000 homes, President Luis Abinader announced yesterday.

In his accountability speech before the National Assembly, the president explained that for this year 2023, the My Housing Plan contemplates the delivery of more than 5,500 new homes throughout the country, while Happy Family Housing has 12 projects in advanced stages of construction this year that will generate 4,784 homes.

“For my government, decent housing is a necessary objective if we want to achieve fair development in our country. Therefore, in terms of housing, our plan is based on three pillars that cover different niches and needs.”.

In that regard, he explained the three programs his government is implementing: Dominicana se Reconstruye (Dominican Republic Rebuilds), Mi Vivienda (My Home), and Familia Feliz (Happy Family). The first, launched in September 2020, was described by the president as the largest housing improvement program implemented in the last 20 years, which by the end of last year had benefited more than 40,000 families with complete or partial home repairs.

“This means that more than 112,000 Dominicans now live safely in their homes, which greatly improves their quality of life,” the president stated.

He explained that through the My Home Plan, 2,800 new homes have been delivered, “that is, three times what was built in the same period of time under the previous administration. We have already delivered a third of the total committed, and for this year, 2023, the delivery of more than 5,500 new homes is planned throughout the country, solely through the My Home Plan.”.

Through the third plan, Happy Family Housing, he said that the current administration has benefited 455 families who now live in their own homes. And in 2023, it has 12 projects in advanced stages of construction to deliver 4,784 homes.

“Familia Feliz is an ongoing project, and we are working on the permitting for 23 more projects that will add 6,431 homes. Therefore, between Mi Vivienda and Familia Feliz, we have already delivered 3,255 homes. To give you an idea of the scale of this, between 2012 and 2015, INVI delivered 805 homes, and between 2004 and 2007, only 272 were delivered.”.

They will pass the degree exam this 2023

Regarding the issue, he stated that during his administration a total of 50,143 Title Certificates have been delivered and that through the plan, parcel surveys of 81,196 properties have been carried out, ensuring that in 2023 they will surpass previous years in terms of delivery of the same.

“As an example of a transformative case of this plan, for the first time in the history of the Dominican Republic, an entire town, Consuelo in the province of San Pedro de Macorís, has been measured and is fully regulated, with 8,627 Title Certificates issued and delivered,” he noted.

The president stated that in 2022, more than double the number of Title Certificates were issued compared to the previous year, with a total of 31,637 definitive Title Certificates granted to final beneficiaries and state institutions in 22 municipalities across the country, impacting more than 126,000 people and saving beneficiaries more than RD$2.5 billion.

"To give you an idea of the magnitude of this figure, since the creation of the institution, in its first 8 years a total of 41,185 degrees had been awarded.".

He opined that from now on, those people who already have their title will be able to enjoy the benefits derived from titled real estate ownership, such as the legal security of their home, the increase in the value of their properties, and will be able to access formal credit through financial entities in the market, among other benefits.
