SANTO DOMINGO.- Fiduciaria Popular, SA, a subsidiary of Grupo Popular dedicated to the trust business, and the Ibero-American University, Unibe, announced the creation of the Unibe Philanthropic Trust “Friends Raising”.
This trust aims to provide university scholarships to deserving students from low-income families, develop research and academic innovation projects, support the creation of goods and services, and promote special projects for the benefit of the most vulnerable populations in the country.
Friends Raising has a secure and transparent system for managing donations, ensuring that funds are used effectively and efficiently for the designated projects. Furthermore, donors can stay informed about the impact of their contributions through regular updates.
The Unibe Philanthropic Trust may receive funds from international agencies, local institutions and legally established philanthropists who wish to contribute to the educational purpose of this initiative, and may take advantage of the tax benefits offered by the trust structure.
In its internal organization, the trust will be governed by a technical committee, appointed by Unibe, which will make the strategic decisions and supervise the administration of the trust assets, whose executive work will be carried out by a general management that will manage the daily operations of the trust.
Meanwhile, Fiduciaria Popular will be responsible for managing and protecting the trust's assets, acting in accordance with the instructions of the technical committee and the rules established in the contractual terms. As a trust, the fund administrator assures donors that their contributions will be used as intended.
Support for education
The presentation of the Unibe Friends Raising trust was attended by the Superintendent of the Securities Market, Ernesto Bournigal.
At the event, Dr. Odile Camilo Vincent, rector of Unibe, stated that only through effective synergy between the private sector, civil society organizations, the State and academia can we take advantage of the multiple opportunities that we as a nation have ahead of us to reach the levels of prosperity and inclusive development to which we aspire.
“Achieving these goals requires vision, solidarity, support, and resources. It is necessary to innovate in institutional financing mechanisms, as is happening in countries where universities play an active role in social transformation,” he stated.
Dr. Leandro Féliz – Matos, Dean of Innovation and Executive Director of Institutional Development and President of the Board of Directors of Unibe Alumni, presented the details of Friends Raising and the website, through which the projects and donation causes will be displayed.
Meanwhile, José Manuel Cuervo, Vice President of the Subsidiaries Area of the Stock Market of Grupo Popular, explained that with this agreement the financial group continues to pave the way for personal and business development, “promoting university education, which is a key sector for the sustainable development of the country.”.
Also present on behalf of Grupo Popular were Pedro Díaz Cabral, Vice President of Corporate Banking at Banco Popular Dominicano, and Andrés Ignacio Rivas, General Manager of Fiduciaria Popular, among other executives.
In addition to Dr. Camilo Vincent, the following representatives from Unibe attended: Mr. Azor Hazoury, member of the Unibe Governing Council; Ms. Grace Cochón Jiménez, Administrative Vice-Rector; Dr. Vhyna Ortega Díaz, Academic Vice-Rector; Dr. Loraine Amell Bogaert, Vice-Rector of Outreach and Internationalization; and Dr. Leandro Féliz-Matos.
Also present were representatives of the institutions that support Unibe with donations, as well as outstanding graduates in their different sectors.
