SANTO DOMINGO.-The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, conducted a supervisory tour this Thursday of the progress in the construction of the New Passenger Terminal at the Las Américas International Airport José Francisco Peña Gómez (AILA), as well as the progress of the Baggage Handling System modernization project.
Accompanied by the director of the Airport Department, Víctor Pichardo, and executives of the concessionary company AERODOM, the official listened to details about the progress of the new Terminal 2, which is expected to become operational in 2028 independently and complementarily to the existing one, with a capacity to serve up to 4 million passengers per year.

With an investment exceeding US$350 million, this new terminal boasts a modern architectural design conceived to prioritize operational efficiency, flexibility, and a significantly enhanced travel experience. In addition, the terminal will feature an energy center powered by a new solar power plant.
Regarding the Baggage Handling System, this project, scheduled for completion by the end of this year, includes a complete overhaul and capacity expansion of the system, the incorporation of cutting-edge technology with EDS Standard 3 scanning units, and the implementation of specialized BAGWARE software. These improvements will optimize inspection processes, raise security standards, and enhance operational efficiency, while ensuring business continuity.
