SANTO DOMINGO.- Technicians from the National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie), carried out a specialized inspection yesterday Wednesday June 9, at the Cristo Rey Basic Initial Level Educational Center, in San Juan de la Maguana, with the objective of determining the level of damage caused by a fire that impacted part of its facilities.
The assessment was carried out by engineers and architects from Onesvie's Southern Delegation, who conducted a post-disaster inspection of the affected pavilion, in addition to a first-level visual assessment of the other buildings that make up the campus.
According to the institution, the technical survey was aimed at verifying the physical and structural conditions of the infrastructure, as well as identifying possible damage caused by the high temperatures generated during the incident.
During the day, the specialists examined fundamental components of the structure, including columns, beams, roofs, walls and other construction elements that could have suffered alterations in their resistance capacity.
Diagnosis to define actions
As part of the process, the technical team collected information on visible damage and possible structural compromises, data that will be used to prepare a detailed report on the condition of the building.
According to Onesvie, the document will include the characteristics of the inspected structure, the findings identified during the evaluation, and a series of technical recommendations for its intervention.
The entity explained that this report will serve as a reference for the Ministry of Education (Minerd) to determine the necessary corrective measures and plan the work required for the recovery of the affected areas.

The inspection also included a visual review of the other pavilions of the educational center in order to rule out possible damage resulting from the fire and to verify the general safety conditions of the facilities.
Onesvie indicated that these types of assessments are part of the permanent actions that the institution develops for the identification of vulnerabilities and the reduction of risks in public and private infrastructure.
Structural prevention and safety
The entity reiterated its commitment to monitoring and evaluating buildings, infrastructure, and lifelines in the southern region of the country, with the purpose of contributing to strengthening the safety of communities and preventing events that could compromise the stability of constructions.
According to the seismic assessment company, post-disaster inspections allow for the technical determination of the actual conditions of a structure after events such as fires, earthquakes, or atmospheric phenomena, facilitating decision-making for its safe repair or rehabilitation.
