Cameras and alarms enter their peak period

SANTO DOMINGO.– Just as Dominicans have begun to save money through alternative energy, they are also investing in the security of their homes.
It was already common for companies to install equipment such as security cameras, but the sale of these tools has been increasing thanks to the average citizen.
What explains this surge? For many families, it's a way to protect household members, their belongings, and their property. Security tools are becoming increasingly technological, ranging from those with motion sensors to those that record audio.
When consulted, some companies indicated that their sales have increased in recent months for both households and businesses, with alarms being the best-selling item.
An employee of a security equipment sales company, consulted by telephone by Listín Diario, said that every year the company receives more customers who have told him that they or a close relative have been victims of theft, which motivates them to acquire these security tools.
“The thing is, right now everything has to be monitored, it happens in China, in the United States, in every country, and now in the Dominican Republic it's increasing because people see that thanks to the cameras problems are solved and prevented,” he said.
Tools and Prices:
The cost of this security equipment depends on the type of tool, whether it's a fixed camera, an intercom with an integrated camera, an electric fence, or others. A high-definition analog camera costs more than RD$2,500 on average, while video cameras designed to send video and audio signals over the internet, known as IP cameras, are more expensive.
Some high-quality fixed IP cameras range from RD$4,000 to RD$10,000 on average, according to information obtained by Listín Diario from the website of a well-known company dedicated to selling this equipment.
Meanwhile, the most commonly used analog security cameras range from RD$2,500 to RD$5,300.
In Dominican homes, it is already common to install sound recorders, which have a cost ranging from RD$2,500 to RD$11,400, depending on the channels they contain.
These devices are also regularly installed in businesses.
Alarms:
These systems are much cheaper than video surveillance cameras, depending on the location and type. A window sensor costs around RD$1,450 and a motion sensor around RD$700. Surface sensors range from RD$150 to RD$400.
Meanwhile, a Wi-Fi alarm system costs around RD$9,000 and wired alarm panels range from RD$12,000 to RD$15,000.

Ability to attract customers
Electric fences.
A company dedicated to the installation of electric fences states on its website that these work with electrical impulse discharges of thousands of volts, so to attract customers it uses the phrase "prevents access by intruders".
The company, located in the National District, says that the purpose of the electric fence is to protect the perimeter delimited by the electrified wires, detecting the cutting or touching of these by a possible intruder, notifying the owner, through sirens, telephone call, lighting of lights, among others.
