Minister meets with hotel owners and guarantees greater diversification in the tourism offering.
SANTO DOMINGO.– Dominican tourism continues its steady growth, reaching its highest number of visitors in the first seven months of the year, with 7,197,844 people. This represents a 3.2% compared to the same period in 2024, 14% compared to 2023, and 49% compared to 2019, Minister David Collado announced on Monday.
In announcing the results of tourism performance in the Dominican Republic, during an event held at a hotel in Santo Domingo, the official reported that in the January-July the country received 5,377,878 passengers by air, representing an increase of 1.7% compared to the same period last year.
Collado indicated that this growth is also reflected by sea, with the arrival of 1,819,966 cruise passengers, representing an increase of 3.2% in the first 7 months of this year compared to 2024.
“Those two record arrival figures don't add up to the huge number of 7,197,844 visitors in 7 months. A record in the history of Dominican tourism,” the official said.
He reported that in July alone, the country received a total of 863,785 passengers by air, 6.5% more than in the same month of 2024. Also in July, the Dominican Republic received 189,051 cruise ship passengers.
“That means that in July alone the country received 1,052,836 visitors, which represents an increase of 3.4% compared to last year, 12% compared to 2023 and 56% above 2019,” said Minister Collado.
The countries of origin that contributed the most visitors were the United States with 52%, Canada with 7%, Argentina and Puerto Rico with 6%. They are followed by Colombia with 4%, Mexico with 3%, and Spain, Brazil, and Chile with 2%.
The airports that received the most tourists were Punta Cana with 59%, Las Américas with 23%, Cibao with 13%, Puerto Plata 3% and La Romana and others.
Collado emphasized that thanks to the great public-private partnership, tourism will continue to grow and diversify.
Before announcing the tourism performance, Collado met with business owners and other stakeholders in the sector, with whom he reviewed the state of the industry in the country.
