SANTO DOMINGO.-The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, inaugurated the restoration work on Casa Aybarin the Colonial City yesterday, Tuesday, with an investment of RD 102,288,093.
The statement from the Presidency specifies that the objective of the project is to restore, structurally consolidate and rehabilitate the historic Aybar House to convert it into an institutional, cultural and tourist space, preserving its heritage value within the Colonial City, noting that the interventions involve the restoration of facades, roofs, floors, doors, windows and architectural elements.
Collado said that this intervention is part of the recovery efforts of the Colonial City, considered the main historical and cultural center of the Dominican Republic and one of the most significant colonial complexes in America.
“Thanks to the extraordinary transformation we are carrying out in the Colonial City, 13% of the tourists who arrive in the country are visiting this historic place,” he said.
The areas that will be renovated
The restoration of Casa Aybar will include the correction of dampness, leaks and other construction pathologies, as well as the structural reinforcement of walls and deteriorated elements.
In addition, renovation of electrical, sanitary, air conditioning and fire protection installations, construction of a complementary building for public restrooms and cafeteria.
It will house offices
The press release states that the building will house institutional offices, cultural and tourist services, a ticket office, tourist information, temporary exhibitions, public restrooms, and a cafeteria.
In addition to the remodeling, the repair of La Atarazanas street, where the Aybar House is located, includes paving stones, sidewalks, curbs, steps and storm drainage.
The work is supervised by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Areas (Ceiztur).
A robust investment
David Collado highlighted that the Ministry of Tourism has invested nearly 10 million dollars in the Colonial City, impacting emblematic works, after reiterating its commitment to delivering a Colonial City for the enjoyment of its residents, national and international tourists, and proof of this are the works delivered, citing the Museum of the Sea and the Ozama Fortress, the Cathedral Museum, the Gate of Mercy, more than 12 churches that were intervened and the construction of sidewalks and curbs, among others.
