SANTO DOMINGO- The Ministry of Labor ordered the immediate halt of construction work on a tower located in the Piantini sector, National District, after identifying serious irregularities in the construction processes that represented a significant risk to the life and safety of the workers.
This decision comes after a tragic accident in which a worker named Varemond Edwige, 30, lost his life after falling down a temporary elevator shaft on Wednesday night.
Following an exhaustive technical inspection led by the Director of Labor Inspectorate Coordination of the Ministry, Juan Ramón Ventura, it was confirmed that the construction company involved violated important legal regulations, including Article 436 of the Labor Code, Article 13 of Regulation 522-06, and Article 13 of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention, essential regulations to guarantee safe and decent working conditions.

The Director of Coordination of the Labor Inspectorate of the Ministry, Juan Ramón Ventura, highlighted that this measure has as its main objective to reaffirm the commitment of that entity to the protection of the rights and safety of the working class.
“It is essential that companies in the construction sector strictly comply with current regulations to ensure a safe and respectful work environment for the rights of their employees,” he stressed.
The official also stated that the construction company's activities can only resume after the detected irregularities are corrected and full compliance with the laws and regulations that protect the safety of workers is guaranteed.
