The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported in its latest bulletin, issued last night, that a total of 2,168 homes were affected by Hurricane Fiona, of which 613 were destroyed and the rest of the houses were left with partial damage.
SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS.- The Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVED) has begun intervention and reconstruction efforts for homes affected by Hurricane Fiona in the eastern part of the country.
From MIVED, 11 brigades were deployed throughout the province of La Altagracia, along with a contractor specializing in home repairs for the Boca de Yuma region and other surrounding areas impacted by Fiona.
After sending the brigades, Minister Carlos Bonilla began a tour of the affected provinces, in which he declared that providing safe housing for citizens is the commitment of the institution he leads and "in this situation, we have dedicated ourselves to supporting our most needy people and responding as quickly as possible.".
Similarly, reconstruction brigades were deployed in La Caleta in the province of La Romana, Santa Lucia del Seibo, the coastal area of central Samaná and in Hato Mayor the communities of Yerba Buena and Mata Palacio.
The MIVED rapid action brigades work together with the Dominicana se Reconstruye team, a plan implemented by the institution since 2020 that has so far intervened in more than 28,000 homes throughout the national territory.
