French President Emmanuel Macronyesterday expressed his government's interest in financing 85 % of the Santo Domingo Metropolitan Train and the Dominican government's comprehensive transportation plan for the Greater Santo Domingo area.
During a meeting with the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, the leaders discussed the issue and also talked about the situation in Haiti.
In a meeting that lasted approximately 30 minutes, both leaders reviewed relations between their two countries, which Macron described as excellent.
Both agreed to continue maintaining these relations, especially with France's collaboration on infrastructure for the Dominican Republic.
When addressing the Haitian issue, the Dominican president asked the French president to have his country get involved, along with the international community, in the search for stability in the neighboring country.
Both expressed their support for the work being done by Kenyan forces and the international mission.
In that regard, President Macron expressed his willingness to collaborate with the Dominican Republic on security and defense matters
The President of France also expressed his willingness to collaborate in addressing the sargassum problem, which affects both the Dominican Republic and French territories in the Caribbean.
President Abinader took the opportunity to invite Macron to the country early next year, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Santiago monorail, to which the French president responded positively.
Macron received President Abinader at the Palais des Rois Sardes in Nice, where the Third United Nations Ocean Conference is being held.
During the meeting, President Abinader was accompanied by the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Paino Henríquez; the Executive Vice President of the Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism, Max Puig; the Ambassador to France, David Puig; and the President's Assistant, Noelia Shephard.
