SANTO DOMINGO.- DATE, Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange, returns for its 23rd edition, organized by the Dominican Republic Hotel and Tourism Association, ASONAHORES. This trade fair brings together various stakeholders and companies in the tourism sector to promote the country's destinations and attractions.
A press release from ASONAHORES states that the event will take place at the Barcelo Bavaro Grand Resort Convention Center, from tomorrow, April 26th to the 28th of this month in Punta Cana.
DATE, explains the organizing entity, is a dynamic platform through which appointments are made, with business rounds with tourism companies established in the country such as hotels and tour operators, with international buyers from the main source markets, who have already confirmed their presence, says the press document.
"In addition to the planned negotiations, DATE brings together important international participants, senior executives from the public and private sectors, representatives of the industry in the country, renowned national and international press, as well as an agenda consisting of more than 17 press conferences, signing of agreements, and social activities," he emphasizes.
The ASONAHORES initiative has the support of the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) through the participation of more than 20 Tourist Promotion Offices, OPTs, which will be present at the host event, "to continue promoting the sector that constitutes one of the main economic activities of the country, considered a leader in attracting foreign direct investment in the Caribbean," the document adds.
The organizer of the meeting maintains that the Dominican Republic's success in managing tourism during the crisis is confirmed by the 11% growth in tourist arrivals by air in 2022; 7.1 million compared to 6.4 million in 2019, in addition to 1.3 million cruise passengers, which surpasses the 1.1 million received in 2019, ASONAHORES highlights.
"Following international recognition as the first destination to resume tourism operations after the Covid-19 crisis, after the government adopted a series of measures to guarantee the safety of locals and foreigners, the Dominican Republic exhibited extraordinary growth in air and cruise ship visitors, attracted by the international prestige it had gained," the press release states.
