Justina and Santa's right to decent housing becomes a reality

They consist of two bedrooms, a dining room and a bathroom and were built in blocks with a zinc roof, polymetal doors, glass windows and polished floors.

EL SEIBO.– Santa Ivelisse Sterling and her fellow townswoman Justina Rivera were overjoyed yesterday as they received their long-awaited homes. This brought dignity to the lives of two families who had been living in dilapidated shacks, as their financial resources had never been sufficient to make the necessary renovations.

Through the Dignified Community program, the government delivered two homes, one in the Cañada Francisca sector and the other in Las Quinientas, in the Santa Cruz del Seibo community, in the eastern part of the country. They consist of two bedrooms, a living/dining room, and a bathroom, and were built with concrete blocks, zinc roofs, metal doors, glass windows, and polished floors.

The acting director of Comunidad Digna, Sigmund Freund, delivered the homes on behalf of the Dominican government. In his inaugural address, he expressed his satisfaction that the State had fulfilled its duty to both families and assured them that they would be able to have Christmas Eve dinner in their new homes, which were also furnished with some household items.

He recalled that El Seibo was where he made his first visit, after being temporarily appointed to Comunidad Digna, and that it was at that time that he met and spoke with Justina Rivera and Santa Ivelisse, who had made the request to the institution to rehabilitate the deteriorated shacks in which they resided with their families.

It was then, by order of President Luis Abinader, that the intervention and immediate completion of these projects were ordered. The official stated that he will continue working as a public servant to change the lives of those in need nationwide.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries was Mrs. Santa Ivelisse Sterling, who with tears of happiness thanked the government for the delivery of the house she had dreamed of to share with her children.

After the handover of the new homes, the director of Comunidad Digna, Sigmund Freund, visited the school in Los Cajuiles, in the Cañada Francisca sector, and several families in Las Quinientas, Santa Cruz del Seibo, listening to their needs, which he said would be addressed, within the possibilities of the institution
