Japanese technicians present pre-feasibility study for the Santo Domingo metropolitan train

SANTO DOMINGO.-  A delegation from the Embassy of Japan accredited in the country and representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Exchange and Trade (METI) of the Asian nation presented the Pre-Feasibility Study of the Metropolitan Train of Santo Domingo to the technical team of the Trust for the Development of the Mass Transit System of the Dominican Republic (FITRAM), research carried out by the Japanese company Nippon Koei, thanks to a donation from the Japanese government to the Dominican State.

According to a press release from the Ministry of the Presidency, the aforementioned study presented a multi-criteria analysis of the technologies available for the manufacture of this type of urban transport system and it is part of the studies necessary to materialize the project announced by the President of the Republic and which was presented in detail during the launch of the Integrated Transport System of Santo Domingo (SIT-Sto. Dgo.).

The meeting was led by Masahiro Takagi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the country, Fujiwaki Miyu, in charge of Cooperation and Economic Affairs, Ogawa Motoko, Director of Infrastructure Project Promotion of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Exchange (METI), as well as representatives of the company Nippon Koei.

The meeting was attended by various institutions representing the Dominican government involved in the process, such as the General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships (DGAPP), FITRAM, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic (MIREX).

About the Santo Domingo Metropolitan Train

The Dominican government announced that construction of the Santo Domingo Metropolitan Train will begin in 2024, a public-private partnership initiative that will connect the Las Américas International Airport with the Olympic Center in its first phase, and in a second phase, continue along 27 de Febrero Avenue to Pintura and Prolongación 27 in Santo Domingo Oeste.

The Santo Domingo-Las Américas Metropolitan Train is the most transformative project that the city of Santo Domingo will see, connecting more than 30 sectors throughout the metropolitan area and benefiting more than 300,000 users.

This project will turn Santo Domingo into the true tourist hub of the entire Caribbean region.
