In Santiago, the laying of the Carrier-Tractor cable begins on the cable car

SANTIAGO.-The Mobility Projects Office, the entity that executes the projects managed by the Trust for the Development of the Mass Transit System of the Dominican Republic (FITRAM), reported yesterday, Monday, that they have begun laying the Carrier-Tractor cable on line 1 of the cable car in the Heart City, which is part of the Integrated Transportation System of Santiago (SIT Stgo.).

According to a statement, now that the assembly and alignment of the pylons and the construction of the gray work of the 4 stations of the system: Central Station, Mirador del Yaque Station, Presidente Antonio Guzmán Station and La Yagüita del Pastor Station, this process of installing the carrying-traction cable on which the cabins will circulate begins, which will be finished at the end of November.

The press release explains that the assembly activity consists of guiding a lightweight cable over cable car stations and towers, which is pulled manually in the short sections, and in this case a special drone brought from Colombia will be used to lift the longer sections.

"After the installation of the lightweight cable, it will be used to pull the final cable, completing the process with its splicing, allowing the system to operate continuously. The assembly process will take place on the 23 towers that support the system," explains FITRAM.

Line 1 of the Santiago Cable Car consists of 4 stations, 1 cabin garage, 23 pylons, cabins, 4 km of track, and a speed of 7 m/s. The detachable clamp monocable system will have a capacity of 4,000 passengers per hour per direction (pphps).

The Santiago cable car has been developed to fly over the most congested areas of the city, at the Hermanos Patiño Bridge and the Ercilia Pepín Bridge, giving access to the marginalized sectors along the banks of the Yaque del Norte River, such as Bella Vista, La Yaguita El Pastor, La Barranquita, Los Jazmines-Cristo Rey, Villa Olímpica, El Ensueño and Pekín.

The installation of the support-traction cable will allow the system to be switched on and the testing period to begin, fulfilling the goal established in the project execution schedule.

The project aims to establish a high-quality and readily available public transport service, interconnected with the Santiago Integrated Transport System (SIT), reducing travel time and transport costs, and increasing accessibility and quality of life for users.
