SANTO DOMINGO.- The average hotel occupancy rate during the past year 2023 was 74.7% with an increase of 3.3 points of occupancy compared to the previous year, according to the “2023 Yearbook of Economic Statistics”, of the National Statistics Office (ONE).
The report, released this October, adds that the highest average occupancy rates were recorded in Punta Cana Bávaro with 80.6%, La Romana Bayahíbe with 79.6% and Samaná with 68.3%.
He emphasizes that the month with the highest hotel occupancy was February, with 82.0%.
It also states that the number of passengers who arrived in the country by air amounted to 9,009,094, of which 74.7% were non-resident foreigners, the main reason for travel being recreation and visiting a friend or individual.
“The country received tourism revenues of US$9.751 billion, representing a growth of 16.1%. The country received 2,258,941 passengers by sea, with Amber Cove receiving the largest share at 46.3%, followed by Taíno Bay with 32.8% of the total,” the ONE report highlights.
It adds that the international movement of incoming and outgoing passengers by air was 18,073,202, with Punta Cana airport having the highest movement representing 51.6% of the total, followed by Las Américas International Airport with 30.4%
The report indicates that of the passengers arriving by air, 6,730,802 were non-resident foreigners, representing 74.7% of total passengers. "38.3% of the non-resident foreigners received were from the United States, 13.3% from Canada, and 5.1% from Colombia," the statistics detail.
Of the non-resident passengers, 1,327,869 were Dominican passengers, representing 16.5% of the total non-residents.
“950,423 resident passengers arrived in the country, of which 83.9% were Dominican and 16.1% were foreigners. • The main reason for travel was recreation (72.7%), while 11.9% were visiting a friend or other individual.”.
