SANTO DOMINGO.- Tourists and staff of the Viva Dominicus Beach by Wyndham hotel were evacuated as a precaution this Friday after a fire affected part of the facilities of the tourist complex located in Bayahibe, La Altagracia province.
The fire originated in the hotel's reception area and forced the activation of emergency protocols, while units from the Fire Department and other relief agencies worked to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to other areas of the hotel.
Images circulating on social media show guests gathered in safe areas, including the resort's beach, as firefighting efforts continued.
Efforts are being reinforced from other provinces
In addition to local units, emergency teams from La Romana and San Pedro de Macorís joined the efforts to extinguish the fire and assist some people affected by the smoke.
While firefighters carried out the operations, plumes of smoke were visible from various points in the tourist area, generating concern among visitors and residents.
No reports of casualties
So far, authorities have not reported any casualties or serious injuries related to the accident.
No official details have been offered regarding the causes of the fire or the extent of the damage to the hotel complex.

The Viva Dominicus Beach hotel is part of one of the main tourist centers in the east of the country, an area that receives thousands of national and foreign visitors each year attracted by the beaches and hotel offer of Bayahibe.
