Heavy rains in Puerto Plata flooded numerous homes and swept away several vehicles, but so far no injuries have been reported.
According to the Civil Defense of Sosúa, some 68 homes were flooded in that municipality without affecting their residents who moved to the homes of relatives.
The rains caused flooding in Maimón and other communities. Among the affected areas are Boca de la Cañada in Bella Vista and Loma Bajita.
At least three vehicles were swept away, with one case occurring on Presidente Caamaño Avenue where a pickup truck fell into a dip, while in the Jardines del Atlántico neighborhood, three young people were seen helping the driver of an SUV.
Meanwhile, in the community of Loma Bajita in Sosúa, another vehicle was swept away by the waters of the ravine.
Provincial Governor Claritza Rochtte convened the Prevention, Mitigation and Response Committee, which immediately began providing assistance to the affected communities, while Mayor Roquelito García toured different sectors.
The report from the Emergency Operations Center (COE) indicates that Puerto Plata is on yellow alert, while Santiago, María Trinidad Sánchez, La Vega, Samaná, Espaillat and Monseñor Nouel are on green alert.
The alerts are due to a trough located northeast of our national territory and associated with a frontal system in the North Atlantic.
