SANTO DOMINGO- President Luis Abinader yesterday led the delivery of 3,366 property title certificates to the same number of beneficiaries living in the La Ciénaga sector who had been without legal documents for more than 40 years, and of 48 apartments from the Happy Family program in Santo Domingo East.
During the handover, the president said that the government is fulfilling "social justice" by giving the titles because with this "it dignifies the lives" of the residents of La Ciénaga.
Abinader pointed out that the "state debt" was not addressed by other government administrations because the leaders "preferred to look the other way" due to the complexity of the project, but he emphasized that his administration "decided to look towards the people.".
He also emphasized that the delivery of land titles is part of a national plan that aims to be implemented throughout the country and that, in the coming days, will include areas such as Los Guandules and La Zurza.
Before handing over the certificates, the interim director of the State Land Technical Executive Unit, Duarte Méndez, described the event as "historic" and detailed that the titles correspond to more than one million square meters of land.
He also highlighted that the cost of the bonds was fully covered by the Government, amounting to more than RD$266 million.
For his part, Pablo Hiciano, who spoke on behalf of the community members of La Ciénaga, also said that the delivery of titles is "historic" and praised Senator Faride Raful's efforts to ensure that the residents have legal ownership of their land.
"You (Abinader) have brought us peace of mind because now no one can call us invaders," Hiciano said, calling on other officials to address other problems facing the sector.
Under Abinader's administration, the State Land Titling Technical Unit, UTECT, has delivered 61,665 thousand titles nationwide.
Housing
During the weekend, Abinader also led the delivery of 48 apartments from the first stage of the Trapiche Residential housing project, Prados de la Caña, in San Antonio de Guerra, through the National Happy Family Plan, a project that will have 288 housing units and will be built in three stages.
The Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos, explained that of the 48 families, women constitute 64.6% of the beneficiaries (31) and men, 35.4% (17).
“Of these 31 women, 14 are beneficiaries of the Bono-Mujer, a subsidy for women in vulnerable situations or who, for gender reasons, have difficulties accessing decent housing,” Santos noted.
