President Luis Abinader yesterday led the delivery of 1,600 property titles out of a total of 2,521, to directly benefit more than 10,100 people in the San Carlos, Villa San Carlos and George neighborhoods of this province, in an act that marks a firm step towards strengthening legal security and social inclusion in the country.
During his speech, the head of state affirmed that land titling is one of the initiatives he is constantly monitoring. “Because I know how important it is for you, who have lived there for 20, 25, or 30 years.”
In addition to the titles already delivered, the president reported that there are still between 800 and 900 more documents pending, so he called on neighborhood associations, churches, pastors, and community and political leaders to collaborate in mediating between families who have not reached an agreement, in order to complete the process.
In that context, he emphasized the importance of using the title responsibly and urged families to use it only with formal banks and for income-generating purposes. "Don't mortgage it if you're just going to spend the money."
Abinader also announced that, if the current pace of work continues, more than 20,000 land titles could be issued in La Romana, which would have a direct impact on the area's economic activity. He stated that each title issued means more opportunities for business , small construction projects , and a more active economy , especially for low-income communities.
He emphasized that obtaining a title not only provides legal security but also significantly increases property value by two or three times. He recalled that at the beginning of the titling process, many people rejected the staff in charge, believing they were being evicted. “It was quite the opposite: it was simply the process of granting them title.”
Abinader concluded by saying that with this delivery, the Dominican State begins to settle a historical debt with the families of La Romana. “Today you can sleep peacefully, knowing that no one can evict you from your homes. I am very happy; keep your title safe so you can do what is best for you and your families.”
The community members Ysidro Mejía Cordero, Loranny del Socorro Ramírez, José David Díaz Cedeño, José Ysrael Peña, Yafreisy Josefina Abad, Jenny Edelmira Abreu, Martha Beatriz Santana, Gary Alexander Sánchez, Rebeca Bautista and Juan José Abreu symbolically received their titles from President Abinader.
The delivery of these titles involved working in a geographical area of 171,280.45 square meters and resulted in savings of more than RD 203 million for all beneficiaries and approximately RD 130,000 pesos for each individual beneficiary.
This process is the result of the efforts of the State Land Titling Technical Unit, in coordination with the General Directorate of National Assets and the Real Estate Jurisdiction.
The title handover ceremony was attended by the director of National Assets, the CEA and Corde, Rafael Burgos; from the Dominican Agrarian Institute, Francisco Guillermo García, and from the National Cadastre, Héctor Mirambeaux; the governor of La Romana, Ivelisse Mercedes Méndez; the senator, Eduard Alexis Espiritusanto; the mayor, Eduardo Kery Metivier, along with the deputies, Wandy Modesto Batista and Carlos Pérez.
