SANTO DOMINGO.- With an investment of 800 million pesos, the Government announced the start of construction of 30 multipurpose and covered pavilions in Greater Santo Domingo.
The facilities will have a positive impact on thousands of young athletes, community and social leaders in the sectors where they will be built, due to the diversity of activities that could be carried out in them, reported the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, through a press release.
The sports facilities will be located in popular sectors of the National District, as well as in the municipalities of Santo Domingo East, West, Los Alcarrizos and Pedro Brand.
In those districts, popular neighborhoods such as Cristo Rey, Ensanche Espaillat, Guachupita, Arroyo Hondo, Honduras, Mata Hambre, Independencia, Renacimiento and El Milloncito, among others, will be positively impacted.
“These multipurpose facilities will serve more than one purpose because they will be used for sports, social and political activities, religious and community activities without distinction of political-partisan sympathies,” Minister Cruz emphasized.
Minister Cruz specified that the works will be built with own resources, thanks to a significant increase in the Miderec budget for 2025, arranged by President Luis Abinader.
The works will begin after being tendered in compliance with the General Law of Public Purchases and Contracts, where they were awarded to the companies that presented the best economic offers, quality, completion time and other requirements established in the terms and conditions.
Cruz recalled that this is a promise made by President Luis Abinader during the commemoration of National Clubs Day, where he stated that clubs “help us in another public policy objective: that our youth are occupied in healthy activities in sports.”
