Government announces ambitious transformation in Boca Chica with projected investment of RD$20 billion

SANTO DOMINGO – For decades, Boca Chica has been one of the country's premier beach destinations and one of the most popular tourist areas in Greater Santo Domingo. However, disorganized urban growth, sanitation problems, and the deterioration of several public spaces have also marked the municipality's reality in recent years.

Now, the Government announced a comprehensive intervention with a public-private investment exceeding RD$20 billion, as part of a plan that seeks to transform the area and reposition it as a tourist, economic and logistics hub, according to the Presidency of the Republic.

Environmental sanitation and recovery

According to the Presidency, one of the main investments will be concentrated on drinking water and wastewater treatment. Through the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (INAPA), a project valued at over RD$11 billion will be developed, which includes a sanitary sewer system, a treatment plant, and a submarine outfall to reduce pollution of the beach and groundwater.

Authorities indicated that the intervention seeks to address historical sanitation problems that have affected both residents and the tourist environment of the municipality.

Road works and mobility

The plan also includes the extension of the Ecological Avenue to the Caucedo Multimodal Port, the completion of the Las Américas marginal road, and the paving of more than 125 kilometers of streets.

According to the Presidency, these works seek to improve the road connectivity of Boca Chica with other regions of the country and facilitate commercial and tourist movement in the area.

Public spaces and recreation

The intervention will also include work on Duarte Street, the Boca Chica park and the future Andrés boardwalk.

Likewise, the grounds of the old sugar mill would be transformed into a recreational park with sports areas, trails, cultural spaces and family zones.

Health, education, and electricity

In the health sector, the Government announced the construction of the San Andrés Pediatric Hospital and the rehabilitation of areas of the municipal hospital.

Meanwhile, in education, the construction of new educational centers, daycare centers and the Ave Maria Polytechnic, with 44 classrooms, is planned.

The project also includes an electrical strengthening program with the expansion of substations, modernization of networks and installation of more than 5,000 smart LED streetlights.

Real estate titling and development

Another component announced was the delivery of property titles to more than 2,000 families in the municipality, as part of the regularization and territorial planning actions.

The plan also includes the Costa Blanca real estate development, driven by the private sector, which will include residential, commercial and recreational areas, as well as a linear beach park and organized spaces for vendors.

During the event, President Luis Abinader stated that the intervention seeks to promote an "orderly and sustainable" transformation for Boca Chica, while officials and business representatives highlighted the economic and tourism potential of the area.
