SANTO DOMINGO.-Although it has not canceled any flights at the moment, the Las Américas International Airport (AILA), José Francisco Peña Gómez, registered delays today in the departure and arrival of flights to and from the United States, after the system of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States failed momentarily.
According to the company Aeropuertos Dominicanos XXI (Aerodom), although no flight cancellations have been registered at that airport terminal yet, there have been notable delays.
Luis López, the company's Communications Director, explained that there have been no flight cancellations at AILA yet, but numerous delays by various US airlines operating to and from North America.
FAA failure
The failure occurred in the system that provides essential information to personnel involved in flight operations and that warns in real time about an abnormal state in the U.S. aerospace system.
The situation on Wednesday caused passengers scheduled to travel to cities in the United States to be stranded for between one and two hours due to flight delays.
Among the airlines that operate commercial flights to and from the Republic, to US cities, are American Airlines, Delta, United Airlines, JetBlue, Spirit Airlinesand others.
