Fitur-Madrid becomes the world's largest tourism fair

During the 44th edition of Fitur, Latin America will have a prominent role, especially from powerhouses like the Dominican Republic and Mexico, joined by Ecuador and Cuba.

The presence of 152 countries, nine thousand companies and 806 exhibitors makes the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid the most important global event of its kind.

Juan Arrizabalaga, general manager of IFEMA Madrid, the main venue for the event scheduled from January 24 to 28, highlighted that the growth of what is considered the main showcase of Ibero-America in the smoke-free industry is consolidated this year with record participation.

“It is probably an emblem of Spain’s country brand, an international tourism powerhouse, which expects the attendance of 150,000 professionals in the first three days of Fitur and 100,000 members of the general public on Saturday and Sunday,” Arrizabalaga said at a press conference.

In turn, Diego Andrade, Undersecretary of Promotion for the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador, considered that the meeting in the Spanish capital offers the opportunity to relaunch the domain in the nation of the middle of the world.

In other news, he explained that Ecuador will have a 760 square meter stand, with 48 exhibitors, various promotional activities, and an orchid tunnel to showcase the beauty of the South American country.

For her part, Rosa Ana Morillo, Spain's Secretary of State for Tourism, praised the level of absolute recovery of the tourism industry with revenues exceeding 100 billion euros and more than 80 million travelers until November 2023.

Morillo stated that the projections for tourism in Spain in 2024 are very promising and mentioned that the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, will make a speech on the matter at Fitur on Friday, January 26.

The Cuban delegation will include a large presence of hotel chains, airlines, tour operators and representatives of the diverse range of offerings from the largest of the Antilles.

Led by Cuba's Minister of Tourism, Juan Carlos Garcia Granda, the delegation will include, among others, the hotel chains Cubanacan, Grupo Gaviota, Gran Caribe, Islazul, Campismo, Meliá Hoteles, Iberostar, Muthus, Blue Diamond, Barceló, Blau, ROC Hoteles, Kempinski, Archipiélago, ATG and Valentín.
