SANTO DOMINGO.-The Korea Airport Corporation (KAC) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Dominican Airport Department for business cooperation on the airport planned for construction in Pedernales, within the framework of the area's tourism development promoted by the government.
A statement from the South Korean side indicates that the signing took place on September 30 at the KAC headquarters in Seoul.
It adds that KAC will support the “successful completion” of the resort and airport, leveraging construction and management expertise from South Korea’s Jeju Island International Airport, and green building technology for Ulleung Airport (under construction), also in South Korea.
In addition to this, the agency will actively support the entry of Korean companies, creating a team called “One Team Korea” with leading companies in design, construction, investment, equipment and more, based on the experience of public-private cooperation in Peru and Laos.
KAC delegates visited the Dominican Republic in early September and spoke with several institutions, including the Airport Department, the General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Presidency, regarding the South Korean agency's participation in the project.
Hyeong Jung Yoon, president of the KAC, said that this agreement lays the foundation for entering as South Korea into airport projects in the Caribbean and Central American region.
The Korea Airports Corporation is a public company established in 1980 for airport management in South Korea .
In its statement, the agency indicates that it has promoted 17 international businesses in 15 countries and is laying the foundation for growth engines in the post-pandemic era, through market and business diversifications such as the Chinchero International Airport project in Peru and the expansion of Luang Prabang International Airport in Laos.
