SANTO DOMINGO- President Luis Abinader praised the results of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) audit on Tuesday, which certified in its report that the country maintains Category 1 status after passing the inspection and meeting operational safety standards.
“We hope that with this certification we can have more airlines flying, competing for routes in the United States,” the president said yesterday when presenting the results at the National Palace, along with the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and Dominican aviation authorities.
Abinader assured that airlines will have the full support of the Government in ensuring the safety of aircraft.
The head of state declared that today is a day for the growth of the tourism sector in the country, especially for routes to the United States. “Our goal from now on is not to have any other oversight, but rather to be above oversight in matters of security.”.
“Unity is essential for us to continue growing and fostering competition. This will allow flights and fares to decrease and increase tourism for all sectors,” the governor stated.
This information was provided by the president during an event in the Las Cariátides Hall of the National Palace, where the FAA certification was presented showing that the country maintains category 1 in aviation.

For his part, the Director General of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), Héctor Porcella, highlighted the President's commitment and responsibility towards the country's major issues, stating that "he has been a key factor in the great progress that civil aviation has made in the last four years."

Meanwhile, Tourism Minister David Collado believes that President Abinader has a very clear vision of wanting Dominican airlines to fly to foreign airspace in the right way.
“I am proud to work with President Luis Abinader, because without a doubt he has written the history of Dominican aviation in these four years,” the official said.
Those present at the event included the interim director of IDAC, Igor Rodríguez Durán; the chargé d'affaires of the United States Embassy, Patricia Aguilera; the commander general of the Dominican Air Force, major general Carlos Febrillet Rodríguez; and the president of the Civil Aviation Board, José Marte Piantini.
