SANTO DOMINGO.- Tourism Minister David Collado announced yesterday, Sunday, a fine of 4 million pesos for the contractor in charge of the reconstruction of the San Pedro de Macorís boardwalk, due to the failure to meet the established deadlines for the completion of the work.
Minister Collado explained in a video posted on the social network Instagram that, based on article No. 7 of the contract, he was penalizing the construction company Kuky and ordering them to deliver the San Pedro de Macorís boardwalk within a week.
“As part of our commitment to the people of San Pedro de Macorís, we decided to act with complete transparency. We have imposed a fine of 4 million pesos on the contractor and granted them a new deadline of one week to complete the work so we can hand it over to the community,” the official stated.
The San Pedro de Macorís boardwalk has been undergoing renovations since October 2022, with an investment exceeding 260 million pesos. The project, overseen by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR), aims to transform the boardwalk into a modern space for recreation and leisure.

"As a responsible measure, on Monday, November 11th, we came and gave this clock to the contractor of this project so that he would have a delivery deadline. Today I returned unexpectedly and see that, with only one day left on the clock, it will not be ready," Collado said.
“This boardwalk has been a key space for recreation for citizens and tourism in the region, and we cannot allow deadlines to continue being missed. Our commitment is to the people, and this project must be completed soon,” Collado stated.
The official explained that the space had not been renovated for 50 years and was abandoned and run-down.
The boardwalk reconstruction project covers a length of 1.84 kilometers and aims to create a linear park with recreational areas, plazas, playgrounds, an outdoor gym, and sports courts. Additionally, work is underway to modernize existing infrastructure and carry out landscaping along the entire boardwalk and waterfront.
