In San Pedro de Macorís, in the eastern Dominican Republic, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, inaugurated yesterday the reconstruction of the Marcelino Marte (Canito) Plaza in the municipalityof Guayacanes, built for an amount exceeding RD$32 million.
According to a press release, the reconstructed area of the site, popularly known as Parque Canito, consists of a total area of 4,028square meters, of which 1,362 square meters correspond to a cobblestone road around the entire perimeter of the park, the plaza of 1,146 square meters, in addition to the park itself.
Collado stated that the project is a long-standing demand of the community, which has become an attractive recreation area for residents and visitors.
"With the restoration of this symbolic park, we are fulfilling our promise and addressing the request that the community had been making for years," the official stated.
He asserted that projects like that have a direct impact on the community and "that is an essential reason for the development of tourism.".
Areas
The reconstruction includes the basketball court, the construction of new stands, the refurbishment of the surface and a sports lighting system to improve the use of the place.
"This intervention also includes the reconstruction of 580 square meters of sidewalk and 468 linear meters of curbs around the park," the press document states.
The project was carried out by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR) at a cost of RD$32,599,344. Minister Collado was accompanied at the inauguration by the main provincial and municipal authorities.
