SANTO DOMINGO.– The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) intervened in the Plaza Chinese Mall Azua and Deseo Mall stores, where alleged irregularities were detected related to undervaluation, tax evasion and invoices for local purchases without reflecting the ITBIS (Value Added Tax).
These two operations remain under investigation due to the identification of further inconsistencies and recurring patterns in the area. This has led Customs to increase monitoring of commercial establishments in Azua, according to the press release.
The document states that the operations were carried out by technical teams from the Tax Management, who conducted inspections to verify compliance with customs and tax regulations.
During the inspections, technicians analyzed merchandise and documentation in order to detect inconsistencies, validate declared prices, and confirm that the invoices met the established requirements.
Customs officials indicated that, from 2020 to date, 193 interventions have been carried out nationwide. Of these, 130 have been completed and 60 are still in progress, according to the data included in the document.
The institution reported that it has several open processes related to similar irregularities, and will therefore continue to conduct inspections in different provinces as part of its control actions.
In the statement, the head of the Inspection Department, Nabila Varela, said that these interventions are part of the follow-up to commercial operations that show signs of irregularity and that the inspections will continue to be carried out in the coming months.
