A Cuban man died this Wednesday in Higüey, La Altagracia province, after allegedly falling from a fourth floor in a construction site.
He was identified as Gerardo Oscar Fernández Rivery, 66 years old.
Fernández Rivery died from the serious injuries he suffered in the fall, which included a fracture in the right parietal region (head), an abrasion on the left chest, a fracture of the femur and an open fracture of the left tibia and fibula.
The accident occurred at approximately 10:26 a.m., according to investigations by the competent authorities.
Fernández Rivery was on the rooftop of the construction site, located at kilometer 1 of the Higüey-El Seibo highway.
An eyewitness recounted that the two were preparing to descend to the first floor via one of the staircases, but the engineer opted for a secondary staircase. It was at that moment that he fell to his death.
The engineer was taken to a local medical center, where he received medical attention, but was unsuccessful. His body was later sent to the National Institute of Forensic Pathology (INACIF) for the corresponding legal procedures.
Police authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident to determine if there is any liability.
