SANTO DOMINGO.-The Dominican Hydroelectric Generation Company (Egehid) has begun work on the housing project where 56 families displaced by the construction of the Boca de los Ríos dam in Santiago Rodríguez will be resettled.
The Presa Boca de Los Ríos Town Center Project is located near the community of San José and will be a housing complex with 82 square meters of construction and 500 square meters of land, Egehid explained in a press release.
In addition, it will have a playground, a multi-purpose court, a police station, a medical unit, a daycare center, an electrical grid, a sewage system, and a water treatment system.
These single-family homes will be built of concrete, with gray granite floors and aluminum and glass windows. They will have three bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a porch, a bathroom, and a laundry area.
The families benefiting are from the communities of San José, El Pastor, Rincón, Los Bombones, El Guayabito, Boca de Los Ríos, La Enramada, Pata de Vaca, El Baboso, Los Tocones and Estancia Vieja.
These 56 families join another 31 who have already received apartments, for a total of 87 beneficiaries.
The administrator of Egehid, engineer Rafael Salazar, indicated that this project fulfills the promise to relocate those affected by the construction of the dam, a development project that will resolve historical problems of water supply, flood control and agricultural irrigation.
