Dozens of passengers from the Condor airline complained at the Gregorio Luperón International Airport in Puerto Plata after the airline failed to drop off passengers whose final destination was Santo Domingo.
Flight DE2144 departed Frankfurt (Germany) three hours late due to a lack of staff to load luggage because of a workers' strike that will begin today, Monday, which would have "prevented" the plane from taking the remaining passengers to Santo Domingo and concluded its journey in Puerto Plata.
After a journey of more than 10 hours between Frankfurt Airport, Germany, and Puerto Plata Airport, Dominican Republic, the airline Condor cancelled the flight and forced passengers heading to Santo Domingo to take a bus.
“The flight arrived at Puerto Plata airport around 7:15 last night, and passengers traveling to Santo Domingo were informed that they had to disembark. Then, immigration officials directed the group going to Santo Domingo and informed them that they would collect their luggage at Puerto Plata airport and complete the immigration process there as well,” reported affected individuals.
After this, the passengers were asked to retrieve their luggage, while remaining uncertain and complaining about the lack of information. Moments later, a group of drivers approached the passengers and directed them to a bus that would take them to Santo Domingo.
Passengers were left in uncertainty due to the airline's lack of response, and only later did a woman named Marlen Brito appear, representing Condor, who apologized and said that the strike situation at German airports "complicated the journey".
Finally, the airline made no further comments and offered passengers with a final destination of Santo Domingo the only option of boarding a bus that takes just over 3 hours to reach the Dominican capital.
