SANTO DOMINGO.– Six people died in traffic accidents in the last few hours, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported this Thursday in its second bulletin of the 2025 Christmas operation “Awareness for Life”.
The COE report covers the period from 6:00 a.m. on December 24 to 6:00 a.m. on December 25, 2025.
According to the agency, one of the deaths occurred inside the road safety checkpoint and five outside of it.
The COE indicated that among the fatalities, three were traveling on motorcycles and three in light vehicles.
He also reported that 63 traffic accidents were recorded during the operation on highways, roads, streets and avenues throughout the country.
Of these accidents, 48 involved motorcycles, 12 involved light vehicles, and three were pedestrian accidents. In addition, 86 people were affected by these incidents.
Additionally, a total of 10,684 public assistance services were reported, of which 10,061 were roadside assistance services and 623 were medical assistance services.
The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT) inspected 209 signalized intersections and optimized traffic flow at 30 of them. It also conducted technical inspections of 7,968 intercity public transportation vehicles, detecting various irregularities such as worn tires, damaged lights, broken windows, and drivers with expired licenses, among others.
The COE reported that it will continue with the second phase of the operation, with the objective of guaranteeing the safety and well-being of the population during the Christmas festivities.
