SANTO DOMINGO.- Zinc roofing sheets, blocks, rods, cement, and other construction materials needed to rehabilitate homes destroyed by Hurricane Fiona in the eastern and northeastern regions of the country will be shipped up to a total of $50 million pesos by businessman Juan Bautista Vicini Lluberes.
The donation is earmarked for rebuilding homes for the most vulnerable people in underserved communities. The assistance will be provided through Ferretería Ochoa, where he is a member of the Board of Directors.
The supplies will be directed to the housing reconstruction program announced by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, as well as to the social organizations in the communities that provide assistance to the victims.
The businessman stated that in times like these, solidarity must prevail, and detailed that through this aid, materials such as zinc roofing sheets, blocks, steel rods, cement, among others, will be provided, since Ferretería Ochoa has the full range of necessary construction materials.
“For years we have been committed to the country, especially in special times like these; today more than ever, it is necessary for all of society to work together to overcome the challenges that lie ahead,” said Vicini Lluberes.
The aid will primarily go towards the reconstruction of homes in the most affected provinces such as La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, El Seibo and Samaná and will be channeled through churches and civil society foundations to assist the State institutions in charge of the reconstruction work.
