They benefit 472 families affected by the tropical disturbance in November.
SANTO DOMINGO.-The Banco Popular Dominicano, the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), the Caritas Dominican Republic Foundation, the Azua, San Juan and Elias Piña Development Foundation (FUNDASEP) and the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (INAPA) delivered seven homes to low-income families and rehabilitated the community aqueduct in the community of Villa Ocoa, municipality of Padre Las Casas.
This is a solidarity contribution that, as a whole, benefits 472 families in the towns of Villa Ocoa, Villa Los Indios and Punta de Garza, who were affected by the tropical disturbance last November 2023.
The construction works of the Villa Ocoa aqueduct consisted of the conditioning of a storage tank with a capacity of 30,000 gallons, as well as the construction of the intake work in the Los Palmaritos stream and the repair of the adduction line.
Meanwhile, three houses were built in the community of Villa Los Indios and four in the municipality of Guayabal, thus improving the infrastructure and quality of life of the population in these areas.
Resilience in the face of tragedy
On behalf of Banco Popular, Rosa Gil, the branch manager of Azua, emphasized the commitment that the bank has demonstrated throughout its history to be a bank committed to the human and social development of Dominicans.
"We firmly believe in our mission to stand alongside communities, always being responsible corporate citizens," the executive stated.
This contribution is part of the donations made in November 2023 to those affected by the trough that occurred that month, and in response to which Banco Popular donated RD$60 million to alleviate its devastating effects.
The contribution was channeled through the Emergency Operations Center (COE), the archdioceses of Santo Domingo, Baní, San Juan de la Maguana and Barahona, as well as through the Student and Professional Crusade for Christ, an evangelical faith organization, according to a press release from Banco Popular.
