SANTO DOMINGO.– The Superintendency of Banks of the Dominican Republic and Banco de Reservas informed Bancamérica customers with savings and checking accounts that they have enabled their access to the accounts transferred to Banreservas.
According to a statement, access was enabled from March 16.
Customers must go with their ID card, passport or the document that corresponds to legal entities to the Banreservas Tower, located on Winston Churchill Avenue corner of Porfirio Herrera and, in Barahona, to the main office, located on Uruguay Street number 24.
Banco de Reservas will promptly inform customers from Bancamérica, which is in the process of dissolution, about the availability of other financial products.
Banreservas is awarded Bancamérica's assets and liabilities
The Superintendency of Banks awarded to Banco de Reservas the assets and liabilities that make up the first auctioned business unit of Banco Múltiple de las Américas (Bancamérica).
The contract formalizing the award was signed by the Superintendent of Banks, Alejandro Fernández, and the General Manager of Banreservas, Samuel Pereyra Rojas, at the headquarters of the supervisory body.
In this package, assets amounting to 2,346.5 million pesos and deposits of 2,924.1 million pesos were auctioned (equivalent to 100% of the deposits of people not linked to the shareholders or the administration).
Bancamérica was taken over for dissolution on February 2, in accordance with the Monetary Board's decision through the Second Resolution of January 28, 2022.
The decision was made because the entity failed to comply with the regularization plan through which the superintendency required it to return deposits held in related entities abroad, increase capital and strengthen its collection methods and internal controls.
